Passion can change our vision of biology

In the 1950s, Professors Edward Krebs and Eddy Fischer published fundamental studies related to the regulation of glycogen metabolism, revealing the role of phosphorylation in the control of many cellular events.
Nowadays, post-translational protein modifications are recognized as playing key roles in such fundamental process as cell growth and development, intracellular signaling, apoptosis and many others.
The pioneering discoveries of Krebs and Fischer were recognized by the 1992 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine.
