Taq DNA polymerase revolutionized the PCR technique by virtue of its ability to withstand the denaturation cycle for PCR. Prior to the application of Taq DNA polymerase to PCR, users had to laboriously replenish the PCR reaction with fresh enzyme (such as klenow fragment or T4 DNA polymerase) after each denaturation cycle. 
The higher temperature used with Taq DNA polymerases also improved the accuracy of primer annealing in PCR.
