In Alzheimer's disease brains, plaques contain amino-terminally truncated β-amyloid peptides, including the α-secretase-generated p3 fragments, β-amyloid (17-40) and β-amyloid (17-42). These peptides have been shown to induce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in vitro and in vivo. This peptide is biotinylated at the N-terminus.
